Changing my showerhead has changed how I think about life and business.

In the early 2000s, it felt like everyone became obsessed with rainfall shower heads. All of a sudden, the vibe was that if you didn’t have a rainfall showerhead, you were a schmuck. Since then, I’ve always put a rainfall showerhead in my shower. After all, I’m no schmuck!

When I moved into my new place in Miami, there was a rainfall showerhead. One day in the shower, I realized the pressure wasn’t that great. It got me thinking — why am I using a rainfall showerhead? Am I using it just because it’s superior or am I using it because it’s perceived to be superior? Very different, folks.

I rushed out of the shower, grabbed a towel and made a B-line for my laptop. Opening up Amazon, I ordered the best rated $9.99 shower head I could find.

This is your grandmother’s shower head. In a world with showerheads with a dozen features, this one’s only feature is that it shoots out water. But it does its job exceptionally well. It’s literally 5-10x better than my rainfall shower head.

My epiphany is that I prefer the $9.99 showerhead. Ok, here’s how this relates to you…

We’re in some kind of recession or downturn. This is the perfect time to analyze your life to extract your rainfall showerheads in your life or business.

  1. In business, what/who have you assumed would supercharge your business but you have doubts?

  2. In life, what/who have you assumed would supercharge your life but you have doubts?

  3. In investing, what investments have you made because the people you look up to had said it’s a good project but you have doubts?

This exercise might make for a smoother, lighter and happier life. Figuring out what’s actually superior from perceived superior. Being real with yourself.

And you might be pleasantly surprised that a $9.99 grandma showerhead is what you needed to level up. It sure did for me.
